How to Approach Kitchen Cleaning in an Eco-friendly Way
When it comes to kitchen cleaning, people often get too hung up on leaving everything looking meticulous, spotless and gleaming, and often times that results in a bad use of appliances. Good kitchen cleaning is done in a healthy manner as whatever you have in the kitchen has to be taken care of in a manner that won’t interfere with your healthy way of life. Pumping up the oven with chemicals to do the oven cleaning more easily, for instance, is not really the healthy way to go. So what is? Below you will find many tips that will help you do your home cleaning better.
Be Eco-Friendly
Going back to the first point we made, you should not use home cleaners with too high of a chemical concentration in their ingredients. Sure, they will leave a toaster sparkling, but they will also leave quite the mixture in your toast next time you use it. Instead, focus on finding other solutions to your cleaning problems. Today’s world offers a lot of options in that regard, with many detergents and cleaners providing an eco-friendly solution to dirty kitchen appliances.
Use Homemade Cleaners
An excellent way to eliminate both the spending and the effort out of the equation of finding home cleaners is to produce your own. There are plenty of recipes out there that provide excellent homemade versions, created by using products from your own kitchen. The options are numerous, but for most appliances you can simply use a concoction of water, vinegar, and lemon juice. The acidic properties of the latter two will eat through the stains and dirt, and the lemon juice will leave a fresh fragrance behind. There are other options involving baking soda, salt, ammonia, rubbing alcohol and so on. Research the different recipes and pick the one that serves you best. A kitchen clean can be free of nasty chemicals too, with a bit of effort.
Brush Up the Interior
When you are cleaning the oven or the dishwasher, you should expect to find a lot of remains such as food scraps. Use a nice brush and clean them up before you start any other cleaning or they might just smudge any other stains you’d have to clean, or make a mess themselves. You can use a vacuum cleaner to pick up any debris or smaller food scraps if you have the right attachment. Start with the smaller scale when going inside out and the reverse when going outside in. Again, no need to introduce hard chemicals for this – you can even use tools like steel wool to dislodge stuck scraps, but using toxins to literally melt them off the appliances is a bad, bad idea.
Do It Frequently
The number one reason why the need for such tips exists is because people hardly even do any maintenance in the kitchen. Most of the time, people clean their appliances only when they start smelling weird or if they are on the verge of breaking down. Or when they start to look like something found in a rubbish bin. That is not the right time for cleaning them – when your appliances reach that state you have already passed the right time some time ago. Kitchen cleaning should be done at least once a week, and you should give your appliances a good check up or maintenance either at that same time, or at least once every two weeks. The more you use something, the more frequently it should be cleaned, that is a rule of physics, so stick to it and do your job to have properly functioning and nice-looking appliances.
